"I believe every couple is trying their best.
They just have the wrong tools."
That belief is at the heart of everything I do. When couples come to see me, they're not failing, and they're not broken. They're two people who care deeply about each other, stuck in patterns they don't know how to interrupt, using a language of communication that was never properly taught to them.
My work is to give them the tools they were never given, and to help them finally understand each other.
I always knew I wanted to help people. I just didn't know how. I came to couples work the long way around, supporting women experiencing domestic and family violence, disadvantaged youth, carers, people living with disability, and those in aged care. Every role was meaningful, but something was always missing.
Then I began noticing what was happening around me — my parents had divorced, my siblings were facing similar struggles, and I could see the strain in my own relationship and in those close to me.
When I trained with the Gottman Institute, something shifted permanently. The research, the framework and the practical tools made sense in a way nothing had before. From that point, my path became clear, and I began working exclusively with couples.
Most couples arrive believing the problem is the argument they keep having. What I see is the pattern underneath it, the cycle that keeps pulling them back to the same place, every time. The argument is usually just the symptom. My work is to help couples find the source.
"The argument is rarely what the argument is about."
After working with hundreds of couples, I realised most people wait too long before seeking support. I created CONNECT for Couples because I wanted relationship education to be available before couples reach crisis point — practical tools, workshops, courses and resources designed to help people build deeper connection in everyday life.
A trauma-informed, research-backed approach built specifically around couples.
How I Work
People often tell me that sitting with me feels different from what they expected. I'm warm, direct, and genuinely non-judgmental. I don't sit behind a clipboard and observe — I'm present, engaged, and in it with you.
My work draws on the Gottman Method, the Developmental Model for couples, Solution-Focused Therapy, attachment theory, trauma-informed practice, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). I use the CONNECT Framework — a relationship model I developed through years of practice with couples — to give a clear map for the work we do together.
"You already have the love. I'll help you find the language."
Qualifications & Training
"Loved our therapist Allyson as she was very easy to connect with and pushed us when needed! She helped with teaching us how to communicate more effectively! She was very ethical and stated if something was out of her competency, and also let us know when we did not need to keep attending sessions! Highly recommend!"
"When we first approached the business, we found all therapists supportive, approachable and professional. Each one responded to my request in a timely manner. We developed a close rapport with Allyson, who was very supportive, patient and caring. Highly recommend!"
"Allyson has been incredibly helpful for myself and my partner, the whole experience was simple and has changed our lives. Allyson is clear about her process and methods, providing a warm and safe space for both of us to share in, and focused on understanding behaviours to help rather than blame one another. We couldn't recommend her highly enough. Thank you Allyson!"
